Background: Adeno-associated virus (AAV) is a small virus which infects humans and some other primate species. AAV is not currently known to cause disease and consequently the virus causes a very mild immune response. Gene therapy vectors using AAV can infect both dividing and quiescent cells and persist in an extrachromosomal state without integrating into the genome of the host cell. These features make AAV a very attractive candidate for creating viral vectors for gene therapy, and for the creation of isogenic human disease models

Immunogen: Recombinantly produced adeno-associated virus type 8 (AAV-8) vector, carrying GFP
Form: Culture supernatant (concentrate and purified IgG available on request)
Reactivity: Specific for AAV-8, found in monkey; no cross-reaction with other AAV types in immuno-fluorescence microscopy. With dot blot analysis weak cross-reactivity with type 1, 3, 7 and 10 was observed (Mietzsch et al. 2013).
Specificity: Recognizes a conformational epitope of assembled capsids. Predicted binding site: residues 586-LQQQNT-591 (cf. Gurda et al.). The antibody cannot be used for immunoblotting using denaturing conditions.
