|Description||This Bovine Collagenase 3 (MMP13) ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate MMP13 in samples. An antibody specific for MMP13 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyMMP13 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for MMP13 is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of MMP13 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.|
|Background||Proteins of the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) family are involved in the breakdown of extracellular matrix in normal physiological processes, such as embryonic development, reproduction, and tissue remodeling, as well as in disease processes, such as arthritis and metastasis. Most MMP's are secreted as inactive proproteins which are activated when cleaved by extracellular proteinases. The enzyme encoded by this gene degrades type IV and V collagens. Studies in rhesus monkeys suggest that the enzyme is involved in IL-8-induced mobilization of hematopoietic progenitor cells from bone marrow, and murine studies suggest a role in tumor-associated tissue remodeling.MMP13 (Matrix Metallopeptidase 13) is a Protein Coding gene. Diseases associated with MMP13 include Spondyloepimetaphyseal Dysplasia, Missouri Type and Metaphyseal Dysplasia, Spahr Type.MMP13 Plays a role in the degradation of extracellular matrix proteins including fibrillar collagen, fibronectin, TNC and ACAN. Cleaves triple helical collagens, including type I, type II and type III collagen, but has the highest activity with soluble type II collagen. Can also degrade collagen type IV, type XIV and type X. May also function by activating or degrading key regulatory proteins, such as TGFB1 and CTGF. Plays a role in wound healing, tissue remodeling, cartilage degradation, bone development, bone mineralization and ossification. Required for normal embryonic bone development and ossification. Plays a role in the healing of bone fractures via endochondral ossification. Plays a role in wound healing, probably by a mechanism that involves proteolytic activation of TGFB1 and degradation of CTGF. Plays a role in keratinocyte migration during wound healing. May play a role in cell migration and in tumor cell invasion.|
