| Description | The Human IL-6 Enzyme-Linked ImmunoSpot (ELISpot) assay is a highly sensitive method used to detect and quantify individual cells that secrete specific cytokines or other soluble molecules. This assay is utilized in immunology to monitor cellular immune responses at the single-cell level and reliably detects and measures human IL-6 secretion by stimulated effector cells. Non-coated kits are an economical option that also offer more flexibility to meet a variety of experimental needs. Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is a multifunctional cytokine involved in immune regulation, inflammation, and hematopoiesis. It is produced by a wide range of cells, including T cells, B cells, macrophages, fibroblasts, and endothelial cells in response to infection, injury, or immune activation. IL-6 plays a central role in the acute phase response and supports the transition from innate to adaptive immunity. In the adaptive immune system, IL-6 promotes the maturation of B cells into antibody-secreting plasma cells and contributes to the expansion of effector T cells. It also plays a role in the differentiation of Th17 cells and can modulate the activity of regulatory T cells, thereby influencing the balance between pro- and anti-inflammatory responses. Due to its broad immunological functions, IL-6 is a key cytokine of interest in immune monitoring and is commonly used as a readout in assays assessing inflammatory or immune activation states. |
