Named galanin after its N-terminal glycine and its C-terminal alanine, galanin (human) is widely expressed in the central and peripheral nervous system as well as in the endocrine system and co-exists with a number of classical neurotransmitters. Galanin (human) is also linked to cognitive deficits in Alzheimer's disease. |
