Glucagon (1-29) is a 29 amino acid containing peptide hormone processed from proglucagon and released from pancreatic islet α-cells.  Glucagon (1-29)  acts as a counterregulatory hormone for insulin, and plays a critical role in maintaining glucose homeostasis in animals and humans.  Glucagon (1-29) and glucagon receptors are targets for the therapeutic treatment of diabetes.
