RGE 53 specifically recognizes simple and glandular epithelial cells from the gastrointestinal tract, the respiratory tract and the urogenital tract, as well as endocrine and exocrine tissues and myoepithelial cells. No reaction with stratified squamous epithelia. In the transitional epithelium of the bladder RGE 53 reacts only with superficial (umbrella) cells. The antibody is useful for the discrimination of adenocarcinomas and mesotheliomas from squamous cell carcinomas and non-epithelial tumors.
