| Description | Bovine Fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) ELISA Kit has high sensitivity and excellent specificity for detection of Bovine FGF21. No significant cross-reactivity or interference between Bovine FGF21 and analogues was observed. Fibroblast growth factor 21 is a member of the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family. FGF21 stimulates glucose uptake in adipocytes but not in other cell types.This effect is additive to the activity of insulin. FGF21 treatment of adipocytes is associated with phosphorylation of FRS2, a protein linking FGF receptors to the Ras/MAP kinase pathway.FGF21 injection in ob/ob mice results in an increase in Glut1 in adipose tissue. FGF21 also protects animals from diet-induced obesity when overexpressed in transgenic mice and lowers blood glucose and triglyceride levels when administered to diabetic rodents. Treatment of animals with FGF21 results in increased energy expenditure, fat utilization and lipid excretion. This Bovine Fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) ELISA Kit employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate FGF21 in samples. An antibody specific for FGF21 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyFGF21 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for FGF21 is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of FGF21 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured. |
